Black background Gmail

This is a discussion on Black background Gmail within the Bugless forums, part of the Custom Roms category; Can this not be done? Im hoping for the same look that the black BG MMS app got... but for my Gmail. Surprised it hasnt ...

    Black background Gmail

    Can this not be done? Im hoping for the same look that the black BG MMS app got... but for my Gmail. Surprised it hasnt been done yet, really... anyone?

    For some reason MMS is the most focus for that. On 2.1 we had even a custom colors MMS app that was out. Never any big progress with gmail or gtalk... except for the DarkEdge theme on 2.1 - they had some dark hacks. Give it time...

    So the darkedge gmail app had a way to make it black? (in 2.1 anyway?)

    Yes. They edited a bunch of XML files to change that stuff... I honestly don't know why it isn't done yet...

    I wonder if, much like the MMS app that was dragged over from 2.1 that now works with Froyo... it can just be the same way? How does one edit these XML files? Id imagine it shouldnt be tooooo difficult, I may give it a try... Should it be as easy as changing the HTML color codes?

    not quite..

    maybe if i get some time i can try it this weekend, but i can almost guarantee a failure..

    You would have to decompile the APK, find the XMLs that relate to all of the colors (this is harder than you think), then edit and recompile the APK... It can be done, not easy, but seems like someone would have done it by now.

    yup..
    i started doing this with the froyo MMS, had only one thing left (main text color), gave up for a bit, and then it got posted here.

    i'll try this out sat, but no promises guys..
