Can we hack brightness to go lower?

Does the phone need to be rooted? I am trying to get it to work on a Droid X (non rooted) phone.

Just a suggestion since I noticed someone saying it should be built into the ROM. Sapphire has this built in in case anyone wants to go that route, and honestly it's just as bugless as this so who wouldn't want to jump ship from an outdated ROM until v5 is released. When it is I will probably be coming ring back as long as it's up to date. Pete's the man no matter what anyone says. Though cvcps is also the man so will be a hard choice.

This apk is priceless, I always found the screen way too bright for nighttime viewing. I found this thread while in the dark, installed the apk, and now I'm pleased as punch. Thanks a million guys.
