The only difference was that you could select the brightness level from the first screen and you didn't need to go into the preferences.
Thanks, useful tool.

So will this apk adjust across the board when set to auto w/o having to disable the retain settings option?
What I want is just an overall lowering of brightness while still on auto. In the dark the screen is WAY too bright and even in the daylight it seems it doesn't need to be quite as bright.
What I'm reading is that this apk will lower the brightness to 2% instead of 10% on the low end which sounds like what I'm looking for. I don't want to have to enable this every time I turn the display back on so I would have to set it to retain the settings. I do use auto bright and if I'm reading correctly setting to retain will then override the automatic screen brightness option and keep it at 2% no matter what, correct?
What I'm looking for is having it lower whatever the baseline is across the board w/o losing my auto option. Will this accomplish this or no?

Unless I'm missing something: no. It does not adjust to ambient light. It just allows manual setting to go lower than the default slider lets you go (and lets you turn of the light under the keys, though that's a bit sketchy with mine).

I like the brightness apk, but any chance it could be made into a friendlier toggle type app?
I'm really hoping for something simple like the dimmer app: one touch sets to lowest brightness, next touch restores previous value.
Or maybe just give us the details on your app's intents so we can make custom shortcuts to set the value.

Will the middle setting return to auto if that's what you have set? What app specifically are you talking about?

That's pretty cool actually. Did they add a numerical battery level indicator yet like some of the other ROMs?

Its the one named "dimmer" in the market. And yes if its on auto then first tap turns off auto and sets brightness to 10. Next tap restores auto. It works great but unfortunately only goes to 10, which is too bright in pitch black room.
As for cm, I'm on a droid x so I don't have that option yet. I'm rooted though so if the bright control guy or somebody else makes a simple toggle app (not even a widget) and I'm set.

Does the phone need to be rooted? I am trying to get it to work on a Droid X (non rooted) phone.

It appears so. I'm in the same boat.
