Can we hack brightness to go lower?

i think the lowest setting in roms should be lowered so we wouldnt need an extra app to do it and switching would be simple

In ROM Manager, JRummy has a minimum brightness hack to be downloaded. I think its part of The Shiz Customizer v.8
It works very well and allows you to retain the settings.

Lots of very helpful replies! Unfortunately, I don't have paid ROM Manager. Anyone have a download link to the brightness apk by droidmod or JRummy? And any reviews of either?

I admit: I'm a display hog. Whether I'm checking blogs or reading this forum, I run the display all the time. And it eats my battery.

The thing is, I keep my brightness at the lowest setting. But I could really go lower in most indoor situations and at night.

I know that the brightness can be forced lower still, as the dock has a "extra-low brightness" button. See it for yourself: get there from the clock, and then hit the sun button. The display goes really dim.

So how can I get the display to go lower in normal situations? Can we add an "extra-low brightness" setting to the power widget? Is there another widget that can do this for me? BB does a great job conserving battery when the phone isn't running, but I think this could help a lot when I'm running the display.

Any thoughts?

I tried both Dazzle and Dimmer on my phone but both apps lowered the brightness to the lowest setting the stock power widget can lower it to.

On Dazzle I tried the User Set setting, and even when I dropped it to 0 it still looked the same.

I actually released a second version of it.

The only difference was that you could select the brightness level from the first screen and you didn't need to go into the preferences.
