Question removing unwanted system APKs from update.zip

I dont know if this has been asked before.

I want to know if its possible to remove specific, unwanted system (/system/app) APKs from the update.zip (such as FRF84BV04.zip), so that when its installed, it will only install what is in the zip file. I never use CPT, original maps.apk, Gmail.apk, and a few others. It would shrink the zip file a little, and give me less hassle when installing, so I dont have to uninstall these files manually after I install the zip.

Can I just pull them out of the zip file, without resigning it?

If you use a program like 7Zip, just open the file, go into /system/app and right-click and delete the apks you don't want. Simple as that

yeah, I don't think the BB0.4 .zip was signed to begin with.

you can just remove whatever apps you don't want installed before flashing it, should be fine.

So, would it also be possible to extract the contents, create a new zip file, and compress everything further, and still have a zip file that will install just like the original?

    Keeping the same .zip formatting.

I'm very noobish when it comes to this stuff but for instance: I took the past few Bugless Beast releases (the 2.2 ones) and extracted the zip added/removed the things I wanted and just made it an update.zip again. I even themed a bunch of stuff and it didn't break signatures. Just open the destination in one window and the source files from another (such as pngs) and put them in their place. Here's an example

    where I themed Bugless:

Sure enough, it works. How would I add, if its possible, a modded app, like Brut.all's Google Maps 4.3.0 mod, so its already installed when the update.zip is installed. (Brut.all's mod is an installer APK)
