Need to Unroot back to stock?
My touch screen is going out on the right side (2nd time this has happened) and I'm going to get it traded in at verizon. I need to go back to stock unroot but I'm having problems. Last time I wasn't rooted when the problem occured so I'm not exactly sure how to do this. I've found instructions how to use RSD lite but I can't get the phone to be recognized. And I've downloaded the 2.01 stock update rom and I can't get it to update with clockworkmod recovery. Any other ideas?

so you're telling me I HAVE to use RSD lite? Is there another way to get SPRecovery back on my phone? I have tried EVERYTHING to get my RSDlite to work.. Even the link you've sent me. I'm sick of trying, I've wasted so much time on this. There has to be someone here that can tell me how to do it without RSD lite.

Ok, I can't get RSD Lite to work. Maybe I have a mac, maybe I only run Linux, maybe it just won't run. I need to get to stock 2.01 though. What can I do? (box option 06)
Alternative back to stock (update.zip method):
- Download2.01 stock update.zip (browse to update zip folders)
- rename the downloaded file to update.zip (if you don't see the .zip in the downloaded filename don't add it because the file extensions are hidden from you.)
- mount Droid to computer
- copy file from computer to root of sdcard
- unmount card from computer
- hold X while rebooting until SPRecovery screen comes up
- install
- allow update.zip
- install /sdcard/update.zip (depreciated)
credit to rootyourdroid.info for the update.zip file
You now are on stock 2.01. None of your data or market apps from your previous installation have been removed. (setcpu, root manager, etc will still exist)

That would work... Except I have Clockworkmod Recovery V1.8.1.4 and it won't run the update.zip I get the error
assert fialed: !less_than_int(1259199777, getprop("ro.build.date.utc"))
E:error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted

In rom manager use the "flash alt recovery" option then you will have sprecovery

Thank you SOOOO much... I can't believe it was actually that easy. Now can you tell me if it is actually possible to remove SPRecovery and back to the completely stock?

running that update didn't do it, if you boot to recovery do you get Spr or stock recovery, I thought that the update.zip should have taken Spr off it.

Re: Need to Unroot back to stock?
I believe the only way to completely remove root and sprecovery is with rsd.

Possible fix?
Have you tried to open RSD Lite as Administrator? I was having the same problem when originally rooting, I was following a motodroidlife youtube tutorial but could not get RSD to see my mounted phone like he did, until I reread the instructions and saw I needed to be opening as Administrator.
Right click > Open as Administrator.
Sometimes you can also right click into Properties and go that way. Sorry if you're not using Windows, then with Linux I'm sure it needs root. But with Windows there is usually a shield next to Administrator tasks.
