new kernel = automatic overclock?

Running UD 9.0 right now with a 1 ghz medium voltage kernel...
I was using setcpu earlier with droidmod and an older version of UD, but didnt like how the phone was getting so hot.

Right now, I don't have setcpu installed and everything is working great. UD 9.0 is so customized that overclocking is unnecessary really. My question is, is my droid already overclocked due to the new kernel, or is setcpu still required to turn up the ghz? If it is required to overclock, then is my droid just running at the standard 550/600 mhz speed?

Set CPU will be required. The kernel only allows for OCing, does not OC automatically, IIRC.

That's fine... I'm not interested in OC'ing, UD 9 runs butter smooth at the stock speed.
I'll leave setcpu out then.
