how to move from 8.1.1 to new version without losing data?
i know i should be able to do this since they are both 2.1 ROMS. but exactky how? when i went from 7.8 to 8.1.1 i tried to to an advanced restore of just the data after installing 8.1.1 but that sent me into a boot loop... is there another way? im just trying to avoid having to use backup pro and going through reinstalling every app... its easy to do it just takes a while to keep clicking install, done, intall, done over and over...

ok, those are the instructions i folloew before. i think i didnt read it correctly before. since i am running a 2.1 ROM i dont need to do a data wipe so when i load the new version, all my info should stay? correct?
-
when i transfered from 7.8 to 8.1.1 i just didnt wipe the catch. the only time you have to do that is coming from a 2.0.1 to 2.1. then all you do is pick the home screen you were using if u want to keep that set up (i do and thats what made me mad switching roms was having to redo them). just in case though do an astro backup of ur apps then if you do lose them all you ahve to do is hit install a few times (or 50) hope it helped
Current: Rooted Verizon Galaxy Nexus LTE
Retired: Rooted D1 running SS 5.4 with Chevy's 1Ghz medV kernel...barely alive

That is correct. I would, however, make a backup of the current rom in your nandroid folder and make a backup of your apps and data.

thank you! i thought you had to do a data wipe before every instal and then could just to an advanced restore to get your data back. but that didnt work! ill give this a try when moving over to the newest version. thanks again

You can use either option when switching roms. Most folks prefer to use the update since it does not require wiping. Others use the nandroid and wipe because they feel it give a cleaner install.
The important thing---Always, always, always make a backup before you make any changes.
