Gets us multiple the ability to multi chat in groups. Put it this way I've got 150 people that are anxious to swith from bb to android and join the rest of our company. The thing stopping then is that we use bbm because we have groups that have 15-20 people per group chatting at once between 8 states in the midwest.

Sounds like group chat really would fill a need. I don't think Google Talk on Android allows for that functionality, so if KIK can provide it, and you have a bunch of people who want to do a group chat thing, it would be worth their while to download KIK

I am using the Droid x and Kik seems to be a great alternative to BBM. That said I don't see the menu that allows me to end a chat with someone. Any ideas?

If you go to your main list of people you're chatting with, and long hold on the conversation, you'll be presented with a list of options, one of which is "close chat". The caveat is, it's more of a "hide chat", as the next time you chat with that person, it will start from that last chat. I think "Delete Chat" will come in the major upgrade in a month or so....

    Hope that helps.

I'm very interested in trying this with a BB user to see what our experiences are like.

    Will post back with review!

Adding a 'vote' for group chat. I'm moving my company's IT department from BB's to iPhones next week (I'm keeping my Droid Inc) and we need a good solution for messaging, since the rest of the company will still be on BlackBerries.

Group chat is about the ONLY thing that we would like to see from this app for us to make it company policy.

I used it for about an hour total today.

    Not impressed.

Sending a message is very inconsistent at best. I sent three messages in a row to a BB user and it never made it passed sending. 4 hours later the message had not sent. I then sent the user another message at that time and he received it right away.

I'm not sure how these messages are being sent through your server but somehow they are not being sent/received in proper sequence, or at all.

I do like the UI, as it is simplistic, no frills.

I hope that someday some company will be able to challenge BBM, however KiK is not quite ready yet.

a few of my friends showed me this app to use on my droid x. ive been using it for about a day now and i realized that its unstable. i sent one message to my friends iphone and it showed "Sent" and never got sent. a few hours later i sent another and it went through right away. i dont like the app just because if you dont have service your message isnt gonna be recieved. i loved bbm because it would deliver the message as soon as service became available. i was really hoping this app would be as good as bbm cause i really miss bbm...

    Hi everyone!

It's been a long time coming - and I can say with certainty the new version of Kik Messenger for Android is almost here (we're just waiting on app store approvals before you all can own it!)

I agree that Kik Messenger has been unreliable and shaky at time - but I can assure you that message reliability and speed has improved dramatically in this new version. It is like night and day. Beautiful.

This new version will be able to be downloaded globally now - so you can use it to message your friends overseas while only using data (and the app is still completely free!). We will not be using SMS verification - and instead you will enter your email address. Also, instead of Kik Codes you will be able to set up your own username to share with your friends. Also, there will be no more Kik to non-Kik messaging and only Kik to Kik messaging will be supported.

I will update soon with a link for the Android version so that you can be among the first to download the new Kik Messenger (and get a head start with picking your unique username). It's just important to say that with all the changes - the new Kik Messenger is incompatible with the old Kik Messenger - so you will need to get all your friends to update to the new version in order to message one another.

    Check back soon

    Tera

P.S. I understand that group functionality will be a huge bonus in the Kik Messenger app. I do not have a timeline for when that will be available but I'm pushing very hard for it to be included. Kik Music is the next thing that the team is working on - but as the launch date for Kik Music approaches I will keep you updated on the group chat.

I'm interested to give this app a try once the new version comes out. I have quite a few friends from my days with a BB that I have to text now. I'm still fairly new to Android, but this seems like it has some potential to explode with use. So I look forward to the non-beta version.

But I do have a question. You stated some of the features of the new version. Does the new version support file transfer?
