i will give this a try.. the only thing i still miss from my sidekick days is the im's worked so well. even on crappy tmo network. you would just get the message the next time it found service. everything i've found for the android market won't do that. let someone happen to send something while going from wifi to 3g or lose 3g for a min and those im's are gone and you never know you missed them.

i'm sooooooo sick of texting everyone these days lol. its just not the same.

most im apps don't even auto sign back in when you lose service.

Great! Give it a try and let me know how it goes for you! It's definitely better than texting and it doesn't sign you out. Let me know if there's any bugs - we're still in beta stage so we're advancing rapidly

At Kik, we're having a mini contest. We would like to know how you describe Kik to your friends. We're trying to think of a one liner that really captures what Kik Messenger is all about. So give it a shot and submit your answers right in the forum (this contest is also taking place on other forums, our Facebook and our Twitter). Let us know in a sentence what you think Kik is and have a chance to win the mystery prize. Here's a hint...

Kik - Who thought Keeping in Kontact would be so easy?

BTW, just tried it with a few of my friends. Works well. Maybe more options, such as customizing notification. Another thing is the S, D, and R signal. So I guess S = Sent, D= delivered, and R= received? So does R mean the receiver has read/seen the message?

Kik = Keeping in Kontact - I love it! Although the contest is over you get an honourable mention Kik is definitely a company about allowing you to connect with the world around you using your phone. First - we're connecting you with your friends but Kik will be so much more.

And yes the R receipt means that your message has been read - we did this because it's good to know that your messages are making it through. And unlike SMS where you have no idea what's going on with your message (it's on the other side of a wall is a good analogy) now you know that your message is making it to it's destination and what your recipient is doing with your message (hasn't seen it yet - or has read it). I personally feel like I have much more control over my messages (they are mine after all!)

    I don't think so...

I'm in the process of refining the email system - the current system has served its purpose until now but it's gotta go! I should have a better system in place (better for you guys and for myself) which should make everything a lot easier.

Email me directly at tera{at}kik{dot}com and I'll try to help you out

    Tera,

Just wanted to say that I just discovered this app and am very eager to try it out. Trying to get a friend with a BB and limited texting to install it so he'll quit whining about his limiting texting

I had a few questions, though, that I didn't see mentioned in the FAQ:

    1) how does the contact's phone number fit in? I assume, since this is data and not SMS, you're not actually sending anything *to* the number, it just serves as a unique identifier for KIK users. I love this, because, unlike GTalk/GVoice, you don't have to ask non-Google users to set up a new account. The only thing they do is install the app, put in their name and submit. This was the barrier for my whiny, limited text friend -- he didn't want to set something new up.

    2) In order for a KIK contact to receive a message, do they have to start their app or log in in some way? Or will it automatically start with the phone?

    3) Any chance/ability to integrate with the phone contacts? Right now I can go to a contact, select message, and it prompts me to use either VZW messaging or Google Voice. It'd be great to offer me KIK as well

    4) Is there a forum for KIK users? I looked on the website and didn't see it.

I answered your question here: New Android user with a few questions

    "Hey -

I'm happy to help! Ok, so regarding your questions:

    1. When you are messaging Kik to Kik - the phone number is just used as an identifier (as a Kik user all your messages are sent using data - if you send it to someone that doesn't have Kik they will receive it over SMS).

    2. You shouldn't ever have to do anything to start receiving messages in Kik - it should be automatic. If you do find that you are not receiving messages until you open the app that's a bug - please report.

    3. This may be a feature in the future - we just have to consider the different ways that this is done on different versions of Android. But this sounds like a good idea - we will definitely keep this in consideration for future upgrades.

Thanks a lot for your questions and interest in Kik!"

Just a quick question for you - what do you think of Get Satisfaction? Have you ever used it before to ask a company a question and do you know of anyone that is using it a lot? Just a question - I'm trying to see if I should keep it around
