BBM is exclusively RIM (and BBM itself will never be available on another other platform) so there's no way an app can be integrated into it.

Kik Messenger is like BBM (real-time, receipts) but you are able to message any other phone - you're not limited to BlackBerry. The CEO of Kik used to work on the BBM team at RIM - he believed it was unfair that BBM style messaging was only available to BlackBerry users. So, this app brings the nice, extremely fast messaging style to BB, iPhone and Android.

What do you think of the app so far? If you have tried any of the other messaging apps available - I think that you'll find Kik very fast and reliable.

Any way to activate this without sending a text message? I have texting blocked on my phone and I can't activate the app.

    Tera,

First welcome to DroidForums.net! We are glad to have you. It is wonderful what you are trying to do! I was a long time BBM user, and, that is my single most missed feature!

By your explanition of this, it truly seems like an awesome product! I am going to download it and give it a go! I see the value in what you are trying to do. If it works good I will be happy to sing you prasies! Good luck with your app. I hope it takes off for you. Now off to download.

I do have one question about security and privacy... what information is sent back to you? I see under permissions that you have read/ write contact data? What does that mean or do?

After using this. It needs a lot of work, UI is kinda bland, messages was quick if I was in the app. Slow if I was out of the App and my phone was in sleep mode. No Smiley guys and group chat would be nice. I know its just beta right now. But there is no "pazazz" in the App. Give it some pazazz, and I could easily see me using it. Until then I prefer Gtalk.

If the op has a way for me to contact the dev of this app, please let me know.

Ive been trying to get a messenger which my company can use. We are a large verizon premium retailer in the midwest with about 70 stores and 500 employees that used to use BBM. We need a replacement.

Ive been working with Hello! messenger but they are bearly on the bb beta. They are slow and very buggy. Would like to see KIK do more since its already on 3 platforms.

    I <3 You Kiksters!

@joker402 - Sure, if you would like to get in contact with me - you can email tera[at]kik[dot]com. I would love to discuss this with you.

@Mojo - thanks for your feedback! We have a very eventful summer ahead of us - and I assure you the pizazz is coming! Also, to answer your question about the permission settings. The read/write contact data is anonymous data from your phone that we use to determine which of your contacts are already using Kik (phonebook matching). We do not keep names or any other personal, sensitive information - we just want to be able to let you know when one of your friends jumps on the Kikwagon.

I will continue to update this thread with all Kik updates - a big thanks to everyone!
