If you want to edit xmls, I have a guide already writted for that. I actually made it for people exactly like you. Read the intro to verify that.

    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/tea...ow-basics.html
Are you sure the keyboard is on its own? I see buttons and letters in the framework.apk

Also I'm not going to use the SDK to edit xmls. I downloaded it once and couldn't figure out how to use it and it wouldn't let me delete it from my computer. So I need another method on how to edit XMLs.
you don't need the android sdk.. get the apk manager 4.8 or 4.9 for simple xml editing.. decompile the apk, edit the xml, compile back up, open archive with 7zip and drag all the edited png's into the unsignedframework-res.apk... rename it to framework-res.apk and toss it in an update.zip... as far as the keyboard goes, in the system/app/ section is where contacts.apk, phone.apk,settings.apk, etc are all located and latinIME.apk is the keyboard...
But where are these XML files?

the xml files are inside the app.

if you use 7zip for example, you cant open the xml files but you can see them.. go into the layout or values folder.

Sent from my Droid using DroidForums App

This only holds true with non Gingerbread keyboards. With GB, its inside the LatinIME.apk like it should be.

I took my theme, copied all the images I wanted/new ones from drawable hd-pi overtop the folder in UD 2.5.

I then installed UD with the modified folder and yet I still have all the icons from the standard UD theme. What gives?

My 1st gues is that, with UD being a system memory hog, you are out of room so the theme didn't take.
Use Root Explorer and go in the /system folder for your phone. At the top, how much memoery is left? This is NOT the same as opening up the memory card info from the settings.

I havent' had issues with UD and my themes are 10-13 mb and it will usually bootloop in that case... you went from asking about BB to trying UD so it makes it harder for us to help. But if you were to take either one of those framework-res.apk's and put it into an update.zip and then open archive with 7zip and then drag any images into it from the theme you use, then flash that update.zip in recovery and you should see the changes...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10789872/update_zip_blank.zip here, I made it easy for ya. Just download this, it already has the stock UD 2.5 framework-res in it under sytem/framework... open that with 7zip "open archive" and go to res/drawable-hdpi... then drag the themed icons into that and answer Yes to replace.. then toss that update.zip onto the root of your sd card or anywhere ya want if ya use clockwork recovery and flash it.. don't wipe

Thank you! Got it to work, only problem is:

When I hit the menu soft key(between back and home) on the actual phone, you know how it brings up boxs? for example on the homescreen, it will bring up wallpaper, search, edit, settings. etc...

Well the background for those is white, and the font is white. So I can't see the text. What file is it specifically to change the background of those boxes?

UD has black ones and I believe it's a little bitty .9.png but I've never changed that so maybe Xkape knows off hand... it's prob a pop_up_bg of some sort tho... if you used my update.zip method, use it again and only add edited icons to the framework inside... not all of the little things or the bars or bg's... UD is written as a darker themed rom naturally so it will all flow nicely, it'll just have your themed icons in it instead... just my suggestion..

it is a .9.png don't edit it, just find a black one. menu_bg_fill_parent (or something like that) in the drawable-hdpi folder.

I always think of Terd Ferguson when I see your avatar... lol.. one of the best skits on SNL... hahaha... or Buck Futter.. lol

also, I just looked at UD and CM and the menu_bg_fill_parent's are both light, but in UD the pop up menu is dark?.. Ud has an added .9.png named menu_submenu_background.9.png and it's black... so would that one be the actual menu background?
