Droid 4..notification sound quick working..all settings/selections are on/correct. I don't know when I receive messages until I look at my phone. Don't want to factory reset unless there's no other way.

Have you tried rebooting it? Or just pull the battery, leave it out for about a minute then put it back in. Reboot.
No Battery to remove in my Droid Razr
Do you have a Droid 4 (as started in your original post, or a Razr?
