Question Thoughts about waiting before overclocking

I wanted to ask, what you guys think about overclocking from the start on (rooting etc, then OC). Do you think, the CPU should run with normal speed for a while before overclocking? Or is it maybe even better to OC from the beginning on? I remember, that a while ago, when the whole PC-CPU overclocking started, there were some advices. Maybe it doesn't matter at all...

Doesn't matter. I really don't see why it would.

I think the idea started back when you were told to break in your car by driving it slowly before driving it fast. In this case, you want the electrons to settle in a little bit.

The only reason I can think of now is that you might want to make sure you don't have any hardware issues before you start messing with the OS. While all of the mods are reasonably safe, the one thing that can confuse you and cause grief is hardware problems cropping up in the middle of doing it.

Well, i thought about the comparing it to the car too, but there are not too many mechanical parts in the droid
But you're right about trying out, whether or not there are already HW issues with the stock phone.

The difference between a computer and something like the engine is, if a computer overheats or the voltages or whatnot are not right, it simply shuts it self off either via turning itself off or freezing up. A car will simply throw an engine code but will continue to run until you blow it up.

The only thing with overclocking is in the long run you are shortening the life of the CPU. To what extent exactly is hard to determine. I have had my desktop overclocked from 3gHz to 4.26gHz for over a year now with no issues, once I determined the correct voltages.
