Multiple alerts for single text

(sorry if already answered, tried searching but wasn't really sure how to phrase it)

Maybe I'm just hallucinating, but sometimes by Droid 2 will make the text notification sound two or three times in a row, then I'll go to check messages and only have one new message. Anybody else experiencing this/know why it does it? It's one of the default sounds, and I only use it for texts, so I know it's not from a call, other notifications, etc.

Bonus question, my old Droid 2 got that major software upgrade that changed the interface, but I've had this replacement for a couple months and it still hasn't received the update, is there some way to prompt it or do I just have to be patient? Thanks

No, and it doesn't happen for every text, I'd say maybe one in 20, or even less. I know that it makes the same sound for when a text isn't sent, but whenever it happens I look and all my texts have gone through, so I'm really at a loss here.
