Problem with emails

Dear friends,

I am new to android and i would really appreciate your help.
I have a galaxy mini mobile with android 2.3 and i have just installed k-9 mail client in order to check my emails.
My work email is on a domain and i have enter my username and my password of my email and my incoming and outgoing servers.
The problem is that i receive emails only if the sender has a gmail account.
The same happens with the default mail client that the phone has.
Any quick help would be appreciated.
