Allows iPhone users to install non Apple licensed apps. Installs Cydia or Installer with file repositories and you can add sources to it

    Boot Manager

It installs a program called Superuser and gives you access to areas the manufacturer has locked. Lets you uninstall Bloatware, flash custom ROM's, overclock and more

There are some decent videos on YouTube that have some instruction. That's what I used to root my phone and install bamf forever (a custom rom from team bamf). You will also need to flash either the MR2 or MR3 radios to the phone as well if you're installing a gingerbread rom. I know its confusing at first but I got the hang of it very quickly. Rooting gives you a MAJOR advantage vs. A stock phone.
