G2 Smartphone deleted ALL my texts

(I posted this in the issues topic, but figured it wouldn't hurt to post in the smartphone specific topic)

I use Handcent on my T-Mobile G2 instead of the stock messaging app. All went well, and I had about 8000 texts on my phone. It was running smoothly and I had plenty of memory.

Last night a force close box popped up for handcent and I agreed because they usually do no harm. Then it deleted EVERY SINGLE MESSAGE I've had on the phone since I bought it.

Does anyone know a way to restore the texts I lost?? I now use a backup and restore app to solve any future problems. But is there a way to get back all the texts I lost?
