    Questions from Custom ROM Newbie

Hi all. I was hoping you guys could help me out with a few questions.

    1) Is the version number of a custom ROM relevant to the underlying version of the Android OS that it replaces? I am interested in Liquid's v1.95 custom ROM. Is that based off of Android v1.95, or off the latest Android v2.2?

    2) Does it matter which version of the base Android OS I am using before I load a new ROM?

    3) Is there an easy way for me to flash back to a factory ROM, in case I need to get my device serviced? Can I use RDSLite for that?

    4) How do I install a custom ROM? Is there a guide somewhere?

the ROM version has no relation to the android version

    no

always make a backup of your current ROM. RDSLite will unroot and install the stock rom i believe.

    4) How do I install a custom ROM? Is there a guide somewhere?

there are a few different way. the easiest is through Clockwork Mod recovery. download the ROM to through the browser (or from a computer and move it to the SD card) reboot into recovery, install .zip from sd card, choose .zip, navigate to .zip and install it. reboot.

or you can use Rom manager which you basically download a rom and it pretty much does everything for you, but ROMs in RM are limited.

then there is SPrecovery, you download the rom, rename it to update.zip and place on the root of SD card, reboot into recovery, apply update.zip, reboot.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, make a backup. I, nor anyone else on these forums are responsible for you bricking your phone.

and do a search for a more complete guide to Rooting and Flashing new ROMS. i was confused just like you, but now it is simple, and quick process and i have no fears flashing new roms.
