Ok, I rooted earlier today...

Under the assumption that FR22G is going to be the last update for the venerable Motorola Droid, I decided to finally root. It was surprisingly easy to do.

I installed Rom Manager, and did a sprecovery backup.

All I am really interested in doing at this point is overclocking with a 1 Ghz ultra low voltage kernel that is based on the FRG22D kernel.

What's the easiest way to do this?

The two best kernels out IMO are P3 kernels and Chevy's kernels both can be found via Google, make sure it is a Froyo kernel, get it on the root of your SD card, boot into recovery and install it as an update.zip

Is there only one Froyo kernel, or are there different kernels for FRG22D vs the earlier Froyo build?

Froyo kernels work on all froyo builds

I strongly suggest that you just delete Rom Manager and install the ROMs manually yourself through SPRecovery. All you do is save the ROM on to the root of the SD card, rename it to update.zip, then choose allow update.zip installation and install

in Rom manager , there are many froyo 2.2 stable builds now where you can select a kernel of your choice along with the rom, so you dont have to worry if your grabbing the right one or not. I'd suggest Cyanogen 6.0.0 Stock or Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.6 and roll with one of slayhers stock kernels for that rom. LFY has a scripting package/howto on his rom page too, and it makes it very easy to get up and running. He's also got a handful of themes, and they all look very nice. good luck. Just remember, to make it easier for you, from rom to rom, wipe data and cache... when putting a theme over an installed rom, you usually dont have wipe, but if your getting weirdness, do it again and wipe.

Stuck the ULV 1.0 Ghz kernel on the Droid and reboot. Been about 15 minutes and so far so good. I have the SetCPU widget on my home screen. How long before I know if there is a problem?
