One way, the one I used is to update from FRG01B to FRG22D using one of the manual update files, then flashing your recovery partition and rooting. For respect of the people that provided the other way to root this build I'm not going to go over the it in detail, but just know if you google your butts off you can find it. You also need to not be a noob (like at all) when it comes to android and computers. Hope this helps the skeptics out there.
Ah. I'm not a computer n00b but I'm not well versed in Android. This would not be a good first root for me, then?

No you can use the files I posted. That part isn't hard. The first root process is fairly easy and if you're on FRG01b there is no need to use either method. I just put that there for people that doubt the fact that FRG22D can be rooted.

I'm on FRG22D unrooted now. I'm still not sure what I want out of rooting, but I'm considering taking the plunge if stock FRG22 doesn't behave itself.
So far the only thing I've noticed is a bit of bother moving some apps to SD which I don't recall having under FRG01B. I tried to go back to FRG01B and the install aborted with an "assert failed" message. No harm no foul, I think -- phone boots up and works. Except now I'm a little nervous and can't recall if the apps all moved smoothly the first time I tried it after the patch...
So I want to be sure rooting is a viable option at this point should I need it.

Question: I'm probably going to have to upgrade to this cause I keep getting a stupid OTA notification on V6.3 that I don't know what to do with and it won't go away. But I hate having a white notification bar (I like black). So my question is two fold.

    a) are there going to be pre-themed versions of these that I should hold out for instead of being impatient and upgrading right now

    and

    b) some posters have mentioned optimizations on the odexed version. How much optimization should I expect, and is it worth it? Does optimizations refer to speed, stability, performance?? And if the odexed version is optimized better than deodexed, does the fact that it is signed in this way mean that it is impossible to theme? So in other words, would an odexed, blackbar, FRG22D version be on the horizon? I swear the only thing I care about is performance and having a black bar for notification! It's all I want in the whole wide world!!!

As far as the stock versions I posted I didn't optimize anything. I don't know why people would say that. They are just wrong. lol. The files were just pulled from the phone and put into an update.zip for the odexed and for the deodexed I pulled the files, deodexed them and then put them in an update.zip

As far as the FRG22D build, at the moment it is very fast and very stable. It should be out soon along with a Blackbar verison.

OK, now I'm confused (again). A different FRG22D version? And what's blackbar?

Yeah really, I just read every post up to this one, and was ready to pull the trigger, and then that was said. Now I am lost all over again.

Do it its extremely stable, blak bar is metiCk's "themed" version of his own FRG22D rom, only one build just contiunually immproved on. Belive me its only getting better, I have a beta rom of his next release and its freaking seamless and awesome.
