Question Sapphire 1.0 - Fresh Install

    Hello DroidForum members

Sadly, I'm new to rooting/flashing even though I've owned my D1 for a few months now. I've done some research and found that I want to put Sapphire 1.0 with the recommended kernel on it. Only problem is, some of the directions I've been reading are contradicting each other.

If anybody doesn't mind, could they outline every necessary step to rooting and then flashing this ROM onto my phone? Things like making a recovery ROM, booting into recovery, and then continuing with the installation are all bass ackwards to me.

If it helps, the files I have to install are:
    • sapphire-1.0.0-update.zip (ROM)
    • sapphire-1.0.0-gapps-update.zip (Google Apps)
    • sholes_sapphire_7x125-1000LV.zip (kernel)
    • sapphire-1.0.0-droid-x-theme-update.zip (theme)

    my recommendation:

    boot into recovery
    run a nandroid backup first.
    then install sapphire.
then stay in recovery, mount usb, and rename your the gapps to update.zip
    unmount usb.
    install gapps.
now let the system fully boot and sync.
the included kernel is already 7x125-1000LV so you can skip that.
    boot back into recovery.
    do another nandroid backup
    install your theme.

Why don't you just use Rom Manager, and then add on the kernel and theme manually after your initial boot.

I found this tutorial a few months ago and I think its the most simple self explanatory way to get your phone rooted. make sure to read it a few times and watch the videos over and over until everything its clear to you. after that everything will make sense and you should be good to root your own phone in a few minutes.

i think i may go back to sapphire 1.0.0. i messed up last week trying to flash watermark'd. i thought i would change roms just to see if i could. i still have sapphire on my sd card so i will just rename that but i have a few themes left over from the original install that are backed up in titanium. should i uncheck those prior to a backup and do everything fresh. i'm not sure yet which theme i want to end up with.

+1 for this guide - I used it as well, very straight forward. If I remember correctly it even has you do a backup. After that here's a link (from the same site) that will walk you through installing Sapphire (great ROM choice BTW).

Just read all the instructions twice and watch the videos until you feel comfortable to go forward. Hey, if I can do it anyone can!
