Google apps are a separate install on Cyanogen ROMs. There will be a second file available to download from wherever you got it from.
Would i be able to install the google apps renaming the zip file to update.zip?

If you're using SPRecovery, yes. Just do exactly what you did with the Cyanogen ROM. If you are using Clockwork Recovery, you don't even have to rename it.

Also realize that CyanogenMod uses a stock kernel (600 MHz) as default. If you want to overclock you need to install another kernel (same deal, rename to update.zip, etc.)

Yeah I noticed the slow down coming from BB. Can you tell me which kernel are you using?

Quite honestly, I think 5.0.8 is pretty snappy myself. I have it overclocked with JDFG's 1.2 kernel and it is smooth. Obviously, its not as fast benchmark as 2.2 but in everyday use I don't notice it. I jump around so will be back on froyo soon enough, but i like the transparent app drawer and phone with ADW on 5.0.8 wish someone would make that work on a froyo rom

5.0.8 is better than any Froyo rom out right now. CM is stable, you don't have to worry if your phone will randomly reboot while using and app or if your browser will freeze on you. The only thing that Froyo roms have that is hurting CM right now, is Flash. Once the 2.2 source officially comes out, CM 2.2 will be the best out and everyone will be jumping ship.

Well, from my adventures of flashing different ROMs almost daily, CM ROMs have always been way more buggy for me than Bugless, Team Chaos, etc. I haven't tried 5.0.8 but 5.0.7 or whatever it is called gave me fits and always had me reverting back to another ROM. I would have to say that it seems to boil down to the same old issue that some phones just seem to not play nice with some ROMs and work great with others. I liken it to when I get 50 identical new computers at work and they all get the same image put on them and one or two will give me headaches while the rest work fine. When CM does come out with a Froyo ROM, I know I will give it a go just to see if my fortunes have changed!
