    Thumbs up CyanogenMod/Sholes ROM

    Hello everyone!!

I just started this thread because I don't think I have ever really seen this ROM mentioned a lot.

The developer koush, developed a ROM based completely from source, actually from Cyanogen's source to be exact which is exciting in itself. Cyanogen has been like a god within the Android world, developing on the G1, MyTouch 3G, and the Nexus One. Basically koush brought this wonderfullness to our Droids.....and let me just say, it's AMAZING

I think the main aspect that has turned people off from flashing this ROM, is the fact that you have to flash an *alternate* recovery image other than SPRecovery....and my have we gotten used to SPRecovery lol. I actually avoided flashing this ROM for a while now just soley because of this fact, but yesterday I decided to try it after speaking with him and hearing some things about it...

The recovery image, has a file explorer within it, for whenever you apply .zip files. And all of koush's ROM's are .zip files, no need to rename to update.zip....just apply as is. *Unless* it's supposed to be an update.zip installation...

I came to the conclusion that this is going to be *my* setup, at least for a good while.

It comes with the regular Launcher, and a modified Launcher2 (that I didn't experience any FC's with during the time I used it), that both have interactive touch with live wallpapers. It's lightning fast, and extremely stable.

It has auto-rotate 3-ways!!! There is an opposite landscape mode

Since this is built on the ere25 build, it doesn't have the Droid "Neural Network" live wallpaper. BUT, the Nexus Wallpaper, comes with 6 different color schemes to apply to the lines that continuously move across the screen: Dust, Nexus, SexyNexus, CyanogenMod, Candy, and Zion....as well as 2 choices for a Normal or Dark background of the wallpaper.

The regular Launcher.apk app drawer is modified to fit 5 icons in each row. Looks a lot nicer IMO...

I would say this a great option for anyone to experiment with and they would definitely not be disappointed

Check out his original thread here
    And the recovery thread here

Okay I quit rambling lol It's just had me excited I figured I would share since I don't really see it mentioned much over here....

And as of today! koush has released an app in the Market called "ROM Manager" It will flash ClockworkMod Recovery for you, but, at least right now, you will still have to download the ROM manually yourself...but this function IS implemented in the app, just not enabled at the moment.

koush is also working the ability for OTA's

I gave it try and it seemed pretty quick and stable to me as well. I like the 360 rotation. The different recovery image really isn't a big deal, just an extra step.

The only reason I don't think I can stick with it is it seems to re-introduce the super small text in my SMS app (GV.) It's so small that I can't even read it. This was an issue early on and somehow fixed in 2.0.1.

I'm running the stock ERE53 sbf with open home, which also works with live wallpapers.... simply awesome so far.

I can't see a reason to overclock with the ERE53, it's just as fast as 2.0.1 overclocked for me. I installed setCPU just to test the benchmark and I get about 380 or so on the short test... I was down to about 200 with being overclocked... but as far as performance... it's the same from what I can tell.

You mean like the format DroidMod and AdamZ has theirs in now? So you can use the app!

Haha, but I know what you're talking about, the form you mean is the rom.tgz format. That's what DroidMod uses and AdamZ's new Smoked Glass ROM....

But a nandroid file essentially has the .tar files inside of it. It will have a system.tar and data.tar maybe...

But I promise you Martin, the nandroid backup ROMs are not as hard as you think to install I promise

Thank you for clarifying my nonsense .tar statement
It's not a matter of difficulty, I'm just not a fan of pushing any adb commands. I like an 'app' to do it for me Call me spoiled.

Haha...that's all DroidMod has done, spoiled everyone!!!

    j/k

If you restored a nandroid of ese53, the commands you have to even type....would be "format SYSTEM:" and "exit"

    that's it.....tempting? huh? lol

    nateddidy, thanks for this dude!

I think I will give this a try today and report back on it!

EDIT: Little lost on how to install this new recovery image. Rename to update.zip, allow install of update.zip etc etc?
