I guess that's a no brainer...but I've seen a lot of discussion about going back to a non-rooted stock ROM in order to get the OTA update and I don't really see what the point would be if Adam/Pete/whoever is going to create a "better" 2.1 experience for us within a few days of release anyway.

Well the Droid you definitely can. RSD + the Droid's stock sbf file = back to stock from whatever ROM, update etc your phone was in. This way takes it back to 100% stock, and I mean out of the box stock to where you may even need to reactivate the phone. Not sure about the N1, since I don't have one or plan on getting one I don't really keep up with it.

As far as it being unhackable, I have confidence that someone will find a way to hack 2.1 shortly after it's release. Which then the devs will push it out in their updates. Maybe by the time Smoked Glass hits 10.5 or BB hits 6.3 we will officially have 2.1 and hacked.

I'm pretty sure all the guys creating ROM's for us right now work for VZW, which is why the "official Verizon 2.1 OTA" is not out yet. They are all busy working on their own custom ROM's.

Pete already released a 2.1 bugless beast rom. To be honest though I don't see what the 2.1 ota will bring that us rooted users don't already have. Before I rooted all I thought about was when 2.1 would finally come but ever since I rooted I could careless about when it comes =)

I'm hoping some of the internal app functionality is improved for things like email, car dock mode, additional settings, etc.

All I want with 2.1 is to streamline the software to make everything even faster, so once it's rooted and overclocked it can become... self aware.

If you love the N1, then you may like the new 2.1. I don't, and I won't.

I will eventually go to someone's custom 2.1 rom, but only because my BBV1.1 (or whatever version we are up to by the time 2.1 is rooted) will no longer be supported.
