I'm not real big on roms, but after sholes disbanded or whatever my SMupdater is acting funky and I want to get rid of sholes until they fix their issue and switch to someone that will stay stable.
Any help would be awesome.

Just reboot into recovery and restore your nandroid backup.
Go to DroidMod.org the Sholes guys have put up a new site
After I get the droidupdater I can delete SMupdater?
It didn't and after I downloaded DMupdater and went to applications in settings I don't see SMupdater do I can't uninstall it. -_- It's also not under downloads in the android market.
It still appears on active programs on advanced task killer though.
Yup. Also do I need to download my current rom before upgrading to the next?
Have you restarted your phone since SMUpdater was 'removed' or 'killed' in your task manager?
Trying killing the service and rebooting and see if it comes back on when you reboot the phone.
IF it does then honestly, since you have some anomalies, I would flash back to pre-sholes install using your nandroid backup, then work with the DMUpdater.
That's just what I would do. You might have to reinstall some things or set up a few settings that you might have changed since then, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
I had a nice signature, but the mean ate it.
I have restarted my phone several times since I killed it.
