Which ROM best for Droid now?
Guys, I've used CM6 and Peter Alfonso's GBA14 and GBA15 RC (the release won't boot on my phone).
At this point I'm wondering that the thinking is with regard to the best custom ROM for the original Droid.
I loved Cyanogen but with Launcher Pro it was pretty painful at times with all the LP reloads. That was before LP tightened up their end so maybe that's a non-issue now.
I enjoyed GPA14 too (oh the great new battery life) but it was buggy and 15 seems to have issues as well. Plus there's general consensus that Gingerbread and the original Droid just don't mix due to RAM restrictions. We get notes about texts that never materialize (as the text app drops in and out of memory) and 3G issues going off and on.
So at this point, until I replace the Droid at some later point this year or so, which custom ROM is the sweet spot of performance and stability?

Remember gingerbread is and was never meant for the original Droid. We work in froyo stable and the options are ever growing in our rom. If you want try it out Droid Concepts in my sig ....... enjoy

Simply Stunning 5.2 is awesome. All the great features of just about any other GB rom, but for my phone it runs the best. Ultimate Droid 3.3.1 is really nice too, but it seems to have become a dead end road as of late. That's why I switched to SS and I'm lovin it

SS 5.2 runs flawlessly on my wife's D1, but I have battery issues on mine. Every rom runs different on every phone. Hands down best froyo rom has to be sourcery.
I've been running miui 1.5.13 (GB) for a few days and its been awesome for me..........this one looks and feels like no other rom. It makes your droid look like an i*hone

There is no "best", its all personal preference. What one person thinks is best wont be the same as what someone else thinks is best. Just keep trying them until you get one you like.
I'd reccomend staying with a Froyo rom though...
-
Omg. This one is awesome.
No you should try that one.
Hmmm... no this one.
Need I say more?

I second the last comment made every Rom is different and every user like specific things about the roms they choose to use. For they D1 tho any froyo based Rom was really good if ur making the transition from Rom to Rom you might want to recalibrate your battery to work with the new Rom you have installed.

guidot, I like that we're getting different perspectives and a nice menu of options. I'm looking into each of them to see what one feels like it might be best for me.
Again, best for me would be a phone that's stable, has it's main features all working solidly and can handle Launcher Pro. If 3G is going to drop out after a call, or it sucks your battery dry, or apps dump in and out of memory or the phone keeps resetting for no reason then those won't work for me.
If CM simply worked well with LP I'd have stayed there but I just couldn't take the refreshes any longer. Then with GBA14 I couldn't believe how much battery I suddenly had. Just need to find the middle ground.

Can you expound on that a bit? That's the first time I've seen a comment of that type.

Charge your battery to 100%, unplug, reboot into recovery, wipe your battery stats, then run your battery until it dies. I hardly ever do the last step
