What is "Blur"?

I know this may be a silly question, but I can't find anything that explains exactly what it is. I don't have any apps on my DX that refer to it but in the running processes there are always 3-4 programs running with "***.blur.***" in the title so it's on there.

I see many of the ROMS talking about having more or less "Blur" or being "Blurry" or being "Blur Free" etc.

So at the risk of looking/sounding like a noob, what is "Blur"?

Well, you have an X. You know all those preset things on your home screen? That is blur. Some people like it, some don't.

You mean all those silly widget things and "daily tips" and crap is "Blur"?
I was thinking it was something like the "Glass" in Windows Vista/7 or something to do with animations from one home screen to the other...

That is the Blur. I dump it in the trash and set up my home screens the way I like them.

I'm not an expert on the Blur but I think that even if you dump it there are components of it that will still appear. For example one of them is the weather. I've trashed that one but when I put my phone in the dock I see it then.
