ss 4.95 stock looks good
This thread = +1
I love the debate.
I haven't used anything but CM and UD lately so I'd say CM for stock.
Though I've used most roms I can't remember if they were stock looking or not.

By far, the best rom I have ever used is simply stunning by chevyno1, and I have used a lot of roms. But sometimes he can update slow, so inbetween I use metikmod. It's basically stock+, that's the best way I can describe it. Clean simple and fast. For those little extras that make the Droid awesome without adding too much though, SS can't be beat.

Have been using stock rooted frg83 2.2.1 since it was leaked, with P3 LV250-1000 kernel. Fast, stable and sweet. Is anyone else still using this?

Thank you all for all the suggestions. I downloaded a few and Metickmod suits me the best. It's just what I would have coded if I had the time and ability. I'm a little confused as to why he lists a few kernels that are compatible though. Barnacle is working fine and I downloaded CPU Tuner and that seems to be good too. Maybe kernels add tweaking potential?
At 800mhz the Quadrant page is placing this phone just a hair behind the Droid X and quite a bit faster than the stock Droid.
My screen is bright and colorful again and this toy feels pretty fast for a pocket pc. I'm happy. Thanks again.
