The guy told me that they'd had a huge response and that this was a test case. Apparently, they are still honoring the email that was sent out, and they can tell if your line was emailed the promo. He also said that the company instructed the CSRs to not give the promo pricing to anyone else and that in his understanding, while it was a test case for a future public plan, the massive response to the leak had (this makes no sense to me either) convinced Verizon to pull the concept outright. The CSR said he was disappointed himself.

Who knows how accurate this is, but the take away I got was that the leak into the blogosphere (read: the OP on BGR) and the subsequent response may have ruined this program for the general public.

Additionally, he said that many of the calls he received were rather rude when they were denied the promo. I'd like to blame this on iPhone users, but obviously can't do that quite yet...

I guess BB users can be the scapegoat on this one but, if I may get on my moral high-horse now, RANT BEGIN we shouldn't feel entitled to every test program or possible discount in the system. While we all want cheaper bills, berating CSRs is neither kind nor a good plan for getting what you want. Talk nice, crack a few self-deprecating jokes, and call back if you don't get the response you want. RANT END
Honestly, I can actually see this happening IRL. I'm willing to beleive this story are probably.

And THANK YOU for your rant - I wish more people would realize that the CSRs don't make the rules, they just do as they are told - so you yelling at them gets absolutely nothing accomplished except for making the human being on the other end of the phone line upset, possibly ruining their day.

How about if I cam to your work and used a wrecking ball to destroy your vehicle? How about if I came to your work and humiliated you with a paternity or maternity suit in front of all your coworkers?

Yeah, bet you wouldn't like it. So, be a little courteous to the folks on the other end of the phone - they're human too.

    Even the Indian ones are.

I have a huge problem with anyone changing my rate plan w/o giving approval. I am hoping that marketing will switch me back to the talk and text plus promo. Anyone else had this happen?

Wow, good eyes. Keep arguing with upper level mgmt - they'll fix it, trust me.

The new plan they gave me is 900, unlimited txt, unlimited data. After taxes n fee he said my new bill is 71.83 + my 8 bucks insurance. I had to extend my contract one yr which does matter because my old contract is up in dec'11 now its up in Jan'12 (a month longer) but my upgrade status stay the same which is Aug'11. So in the end I save ~10 bucks.
This post right here makes me believe the first post quotation above even more.

I didn't get the email, but still called the number in the promo ad posted on this site (*611 will not work for the promo, btw). As soon as I mentioned the promo, guy told me all about it, how it worked, and signed me up, no questions asked. It technically renewed my contract for one year, but from the date I called (which was in November). My two years was up this coming November anyway, so this only extended my contract by a few days (four days, I believe). I made sure there were no activation fees, and it didn't affect my upgrade date, my NE2 discount, or my state discount. The guy was VERY nice and helpful, and I saved about $40/month.

Should have been more clear, the *611 worked for you in a round-a-bout way. What I meant was, in the email, it said you had to call the special 800 number (or 877 or whatever), to get the promotion.

Sounds like the guy I dealt with back around mid november. Called the promo number and no questions asked the guy was happy to add this plan for me.

I didn't have to renew my contract....nor did it extend my contract. My contract end date stayed the same.
If your line(s) already were more than 12 months out, it wouldn't affect their contract end dates. If you have a phone(s) with less than 12 months on it, then it would extend them out to 12 months, in other words if you had a contract ending on a line in September 2011, and you were adding this plan, the contract end date would be January 2012.

You're right, you must call that special number for the CMO department. 800 Reps would not be able to add it and most won't know what you're referring to.
