I have always loved the internet for one reason: It's a great place to get misinformed. It always amazes me, in the presence of facts, how some people still stick to the untruths that are flying around out there.
We have had pretty solid info on the August release for a few weeks now, but, there were quite a few posts about how 2.2 wasn't coming, and that Verizon wasn't going to update because it would cut into the sales of their new phones, yadda, yadda, yadda. The same mess happened with 2.1. Once the release was pulled back because of technical problems on the delivery end, the conspiracy types were off and running. Facts were presented, facts were ignored, I guess because rumors, lies, and innuendo were so much more fun.
I had never saw proof that 2.2 was being shelved for Droid, or not being done at all. In fact, when I googled "FroYo" I found a few stories linking to a press release where it was announced that 2.2 would go to the Droid.... Never saw anything to contradict that. No official anything from VZW, Google, or Motorola that FroYo wasn't coming to the Droid. But, this thread soon became full of "never gonna happen" type posts based on nothing but the posters own prejudices, or cynicism, or opinions.
Is it so hard, when facts are presented about something, to take them at face value? Why is it necessary to look for the "screw" the conspiracy, the negativity? Is it more fun? Or, do some folks just like to feel bad? I have no idea.
Enjoy your FroYo folks... I can't wait to the update notice on my phone...
Well, we get 2.2 sometime this week....just as I figured we would.

Not to mention there were also 2 or 3 release dates posted on this forum for 2.1 that came and went.
All in all it was a debacle that does make some skeptical and I assume everyone involved has learned from it and moved on...besides....2.01 went off without a glitch and this one seems to be progressing smoothly also... lets hope for the best....
Matt's info didn't jell with what our service provider said. Doesn't matter if he says it's coming out tomorrow, the service provider has the final say on what goes out over their networks. So, until Matt starts posting info as an official rep for VZW (red polo shirt and all lol), I'm taking what he says with a few grains of salt.
VZW's last update, 2.1, was only delayed by days, so whatever debacle you are talking about, it was not with them, and since they administer the updates to our Droids, again, I'll take any other source with a grain of salt.
Translation: cut some of the salt out of your techy info diet. You'll be happier in the end lol
I am wondering if anyone has actually reported receiving the beta update of Froyo that Motorola said MAY push July 30th? I have not received my OTA yet (I understand it appears that no one has.) I have thought about rooting my phone, but I have several concerns.
1.) I am not all that up to speed yet with the Android OS to feel comfortable doing that.
2.) It will void my phone's warranty. I don't think that I would care if the phone was beyond it's warranty period but the fact that it isn't gives me a moment of pause.
However, do NOT root unless you're comfortable with the procedure to unroot your device and the terminology/jargon associated with it. If you have a problem with your phone so it requires service, unless the phone becomes TOTALLY unresponsive (bricked/broken), you can flash in a stock 2.0.1 SBF to return your phone to bone-stock. Many people have done it. However, I wish to stress --
slightly important question. my friend helped to root my motorola droid for the 2.1 upgrade when it came out. since my phone was previously rooted, do i have to root for the 2.2 or will i receive it via OTA (i'm hoping the latter)?
