I hope that verizon gets either a dual-core or 2Ghz OMAP. That will certainly give some room for growth.

suddenly I don't feel as frustrated that I'm not eligible for the early upgrade on the Droid X. I guess July next year I'll be getting the best of the best. God only knows what that will be.

My Droid is already comparable in many ways. The few things I do care about are not worth the upgrade for $600.

that bull, i'm sorry, but it is. my motorola droid which was cutting edge 4 months ago wont even be relevant for a year after its launch? it will stop getting updates less than a year after its released. is this a joke? it was the flagship verizon droid. everyone said it would keep getting updates. well thats fantastic. that kind of thing really annoys me.
i want to get a new android phone, but if i buy a phone at retail for $600 i want to be getting updates for more than 10 months. i would say we should get updates for 2 years, or if verizon doesnt want to do that, then make our plans for only a year, because that's when we get updates.
i think i have a right to be somewhat upset about this too, i dont know why other people dont think this is ridiculous. i mean, when should i udgrade to a better phone? will any phone stay relevant (enough to get updates) for the full two years? (i'm tempted to add "or should i get an iphone",, but to be honest i dont actually want that )
    got eris: 12/24/09
    returned eris: 12/28/09
    got droid: 12/31/09
rooted droid: sometime in january (right after it was released (manually))
    bb->2.1 sbf->desire rom> 2.1bb> 2.2
got incredible as warranty replacement 8/31/10
shattered inc screen 9/25/10-> got insurace replacement 10/4/10
broke inc screen 10/19/10-> got warranty replacement 10/22/10
got moto droid 1 off ebay 1/7/11
broke inc screen 5/26/11-> got insurance replacement inc2 5/27/11
    sold inc2 & bought vzw 16gb iphone 4 6/9/11

Well how do you think the people with a hero or an eris who won't even be getting 2.2? This is how android works. Do you see what specs are needed for 3.0? Our phone isn't even close. 2.2 will out perform 3.0 on a stock Droid anyday, just because of how much 3.0 is going to change things. Those changes are going to need better hardware, which our phone doesn't have. Those people with iPhones do get updates, but how do you think those with iPhone 3Gs who don't even get what iOS 4 promised? They get folders, yeah, but what about multitasking. They were left out of that. Also the 3GS probably won't be able to handle the next big iOS (5?) because of hardware limitations.

The DROID is a great phone.

This makes me wonder why anyone would pull the trigger on a new device at this time. You will end up with a device that meets the bare min for 3.0... And to top it off without the option for LTE....

No thanks... Around tax time next year the devices will be insane and a bit more future proof...

Now that this news leaked out, I think I'm going to skip on the Droid X and just wait until October/ Novemberbefore upgrading my Droid. Dual core processor anyone???
