A few days ago a video turned up online showing off several new colors of Nexus 5 smartphones. We didn't report on it because it seemed like an obvious hoax. As it turns out, we were correct and the video turned out to be fake. Despite this, a new pic has surfaced and some new intel came with it suggesting that Google is indeed working on at least two new colors for the Nexus 5. The above pic (if real) apparently confirms the existence of a red colored Nexus 5 device. Supposedly, this new colored Nexus 5 will come available sometime in February or March. Additionally, there is further intel that a yellow version will be launched sometime in the future after the red one.
The pic above looks real enough. It could be faked, but the image doesn't show any obvious signs of subterfuge. Of course, there are masters of Photoshop out there who can turn a wallflower into a movie star, so we can't be sure. There might actually be some secondary corroboration for this one. The well-known Android developer, Paul O’Brien, recently tweeted "Note: Nexus 5 coloured version leaks are nowhere near representative of the colours of the actual products. Bad 'shops. Surprises to come."
This obviously suggests they really are coming despite the earlier hoax. We will keep an eye on this just in case it turns out to be true.
