Benchmarks Confirm Earlier Rumor: Snapdragon 800 & 2,560 x 1,600 Display on Fire HD

A couple of weeks ago we found a juicy rumor regarding the next-gen Kindle Fire HD 8.9-Inch. Supposedly, the new device will come equipped with a Snapdragon 800 & 2,560 x 1,600 Display. A new benchmark just surfaced on the web which seemingly confirms this earlier rumor. Here's a quote with more of the details,

The results in question refer to a "Amazon KFAPWA" device with a reported Adreno 330 GPU, which by implication would likely mean a Snapdragon 800 SoC. The field that really leaps out, however, is that 2,560 x 1,600 resolution. If true, it could mean the 8.9-inch version is getting a bump from the previous iteration's 1,920 x 1,200 display.
If Amazon can keep a low price point with a device with these specs, this could be ultra competitive. What do you think?

Why the weird resolution? Are they taking notes from Apple? 1080p is more than enough for any hand held device but why go beyond? I feel like its going to piss off developers to have to develop for a single device with an odd resolution. With so many devices going 720p and the ever increasing 1080p, why change what is looking like an unwritten standard.

Oh come on now. 2500x1600 is going to look awesome. Can you tell the difference between 1900x1080, I dont know. I doubt on an 8inch, But maybe a 10 incher.....Im sure its just a tad bit nicer.

But yea. 1080 should be fine. Now they need to concentrate on color accuracy!!

They say you can't distinguish 720p from 1080p on a 50" screen from over 10 feet away. A 50" screen is approximately 25X as big as a 10" screen. So from over 1 foot away I'll say, no, people can't tell the difference.

Not watching video, anyway. If you're going to strain your eyes to read tiny text, then maybe you'll see a difference.

I feel like the first generation was to see if there was an actual market. 2nd gen was better but still from a novice company in the tablet world. The 3rd gen they are finally getting things right. Also, everyone seems to be using the Snapdragon 800 chip these days. At the very least, they can look over the shoulder of another company and copy them.
