[Rumor] The Upcoming Facebook Phone will Be Called the HTC First
For quite some time now we have been hearing many rumors of a dedicated Facebook phone. The newest rumors were of an HTC device called the "Myst." Just yesterday, news came out that Facebook was coming out with a Facebook Home app on Android. We avoided the story because we wanted to make sure it wasn't an April Fool's joke, and today's news seems to confirm its legitimacy along with some additional details. Supposedly the final name of the new Facebook Phone will be the HTC First (hmmm... it looks like they have a lock on variations of the One). This new phone will be a dedicated Facebook phone and include the rumored Facebook Home functionality. Here's a quote with some of the details of this new rumint,
How many of you guys will be glad to see a dedicated Facebook device if this turns out to be true?
A device with the codename Myst has been floating around for several months, but it appears the product will launch as the HTC First, according to a new image from notorious leaker @evleaks.
Rumored specs for the device include a 4.3 inch 720p display, 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon chip, 5 megapixel rear camera, 1.6 megapixel rear camera, 16 GB storage, 1 GB RAM, and support for AT&T’s 4G LTE network. Based on that hardware, we expect the HTC First will debut around $50-99 with a two year contract.
There is no word if Facebook plans to offer this device on other carriers or sell an unlocked model, but my gut tells me that AT&T has already locked up an exclusive launch for the HTC First.
The device is said to feature a new version of Facebook’s Android app, and offer deep software integration into other parts of the phone. That means we should expect a Facebook news feed on the homescreen, Facebook camera app, Facebook messages, and a Facebook contacts manager. We should also see a new stand alone version of the Facebook app announced for other Android devices.
