Sony Officially Unveiled the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL at CES Last Night

The Xperia Z is on the left, and the Xperia ZL is on the right. The picture is from Pocket-lint.

Here's another story from last night at CES that we are excited to share with you guys this morning. Sony just launched their newest Android flagship devices, the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL. Both are 5-inch phablet-style devices. We have a spec round-up for each device and we also found a couple of hands-on videos to share with you guys. Both devices have essentially the same innards, but the Z is designed to be water and dust resistant, while the ZL loses this feature, but has a slightly smaller footprint.

    This video is from Phandroid.

    Sony Xperia Z:
    • 5-inch Full HD 1080 x 1920 Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2
    • 13MP fast capture camera with Exmor RS for mobile & HDR video
    • Dust & water resistant (IP55 & IP57)
    • 1.5 GHz asynchronous quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB
    • Battery STAMINA mode improves standby time by at least four times
    • One-touch mirroring
    • 4G LTE for superfast entertainment
    • Glass-back
    • Dust and Water Resistant
    • Slightly Larger Design Footprint
    • Slightly Thinner than the ZL at 7.9mm
    • 2,400mAh battery non-removable battery
    • A microSD Card slot

    Sony Xperia ZL:

    • Maximized display with the highest ratio of screen to phone size
    • Battery STAMINA mode improves Standby time by at least four times
    • One-touch mirroring
    • 4G LTE for superfast entertainment

The DNA does have pretty good battery life from what I hear. That one has a quad core processor as well right? Still I don't understand what the whole deal is with glass backs. I hear the Nexus 4 is cracking due to temperature changes from being in your warm pocket, and then being placed on cool surfaces....

It's a possibility if it shows up on VZ. Could be a keeper, maybe one-up the DNA.
