Asus must like to state the obvious. They shared why the new Nexus 7 does not have a rear-facing camera. Apparently, it would have added to the cost of the device and made it even less profitable. You don't say? Seriously though, the real decision came down to, either they include a camera and then cut costs by sacrificing the build quality of the overall device, or they cut the camera and keep the build quality high. They made the obvious choice, especially since many users will no really lament the absence of a rear camera.
While this makes great sense, many of us are still wondering why they didn't include a camera app with the device, considering that it does have a front-facing camera... Ah well, at least there are some great options in the Play Store.

07-20-2012 11:19 AMI watched a tourist in Coronado taking pictures with his tablet. From I believe the tour was from japan so I have no clue what models of tablets they get. But it looked weird seeing them hold it up to take pictures of the view lol

07-20-2012 12:39 PMI hardly ever use the rear camera on my Xoom .. mostly because the quality sucks compared to my GNex. I don't blame them cutting that cost to up the build quality, tho it sounds like they should've upped it a little more with the dead-area and washout of the screen that's been reported recently.
