To anyone saying that the way around this is by just getting a full price phone off contract when your current unlimited contract expires- if you are off contract then Verizon can really do whatever they want since there are no contractual terms of service, meaning that they could very well just not allow you to use unlimited or 4g or just throttle it to the point where even LTE is almost useless since there is nothing saying that they can't do that
This is exactly the case. I would just like to see some real info on proposed shared plans if they do this. Would have been smart of VZ to have a proposed plan to offer at the same time they let this info out.

My main hope is that while they could make at-will changes since we would no longer be on a contract, they realize that also makes much more of a flight risk (demonstarted to them by our willingness to pay $400 more upfront to hang on to our unlimited data) and that pulling the unlimited data from us would be like throwing a bowling ball into a flock of birds gathered around a pile of bird feed... everyone would squawk and scatter and most would go find another pile of seed that isn't having bowling balls thrown at it by some lunatic.... I think I got lost in my own metaphor...
If you always seem to have drama in your life, you are probably the one causing the drama.
If customer service representatives or restaurant servers always seem to be rude to you, you are probably the one being rude.
If your computer always seems to be freezing up on you, you're probably doing something wrong.

In my experience, drama begets drama, rudeness begets rudeness, and ineptitude begets ineptitude.

I will leave and I will take my companies plan with me. That's 30 lines right there.
    For many reasons:
#1 the fact that they used this tactic in the first place. At the time I thought it was brilliant marketing. Announcing Unlimited Data was going bye bye and if you wanted it forever, sign up NOW.
Way to lock people in for life. Thought I was a lifer.
Do you know how many people asked me about that and switched to Unlimited on my recommendation? So they made a ton of money there... and now "uh... we changed our minds, sorry! Now pay".
I'm sorry but that is just crappy.
#2 I do speak with my dollars. Don't get why some of you think this is stupid. A company does something you don't like so you say "eh, I will deal with it." Really? I cannot fathom that. This is why companies act the way they do today.
Facebook is a good example. They do whatever they want. And everyone usually hates the changes. But no one ever leaves. So FB will continue doing whatever they please.
Ford made crappy cars. People stopped buying them. Ford started to make great cars again. People are buying them. See how that works???

Not to even mention I was just reading about how Cricket/MetroPCS and those types of carriers numbers are up. Because the market is reaching saturation. There aren't many NEW customers out there to be had. SO people are just switching now and the smaller carriers are making progress. Still very small numbers but this is the first time in a long time the big carriers saw any losses. And this will only continue.
So, yes people will leave in anger. I may only be 1 million. Maybe 2. Heck even 5 isn't huge when you have 80. But I don't care who you are... watching a competitor pick up a few million of your customers will make you notice.

Since I don't have a law degree and I can't find my contract, I can only go off my past experience with AT&T. I was with them before the buyout by Cingular and then back to ATT... everyone with AT&T went into panic mode not wanting to switch to Cingular plans, they were more money and less mins and you would lose your bonus minutes etc etc. Cingular tried to sway everyone with their rollover mins, some people blindly switched buying into the load of crap they were dishing out, no upgrade fee, wider service area, rollover etc etc. Others stayed with their ATT plans and bought phones off eBay (FYI the phone prices did not sky rocket in price due to high demand... they stayed about the same) anyway to make this incredibly long and boring story shorter...
As long as we did not make any changes to our plans even out of the contract date (month to month service) they could not change our plans, a 2 year contract meant both parties were obligated to two years. The contract is still in effect after the 2 years until the consumer makes any changes such as taking advantage of an upgrade, changing any services on their account, adding a line etc.

I can not say VZW contract is the same, only time will tell what will happen, get copies of your contracts and read them over word for word if you are worried about what is to come. As I said before, for now I am locked in for 1 year 10 months when the time is up I will know what I am up against... being prepared and knowing your options are a better way to spend time then it is to complain about what may or may not cause you any inconveniences (the avg user doesn't use over 2 - 5 gigs, data plans may change when this goes into full effect)

They specifically said in a public statement that we can keep our unlimited as long as we want if we buy full retail. We spend a couple hundred extra on our next Cell & we stay free to use 200 gigs a month if we feel it. Or buyone for cheaper on Ebay our Craig list

I think my biggest fear at this point is how the "iphone 5" horde will effect the 4G network infrastructure and how VZW will respond/"adapt" to the system load.

this is true, they'll simply no longer have a contractual obligation to hold up their end of that claim

This too will change. Nobody is going to keep unlimited forever. If nothing else, they will at some point stop offering 3G phones, and going to 4G forces you to change plans or contracts. It's coming, this petition and "setback" has only delayed the inevitable for a few months, if you are lucky...

When I looked at the same page from last night... I was like ... I thought I was in a twilight zone! Loads of Mr.Clean cleaning up really well.

I Like your reasoning @PereDroid, and that is what that spokeperson from Verizon said, Verizon are so famous with their brand n products by word of mouth... that's US! We are important even though we may be few millions out of 90 millions number that they announced. After reading what ShamWoW said, it is clear that Verizon's action with these changes are pure cockiness and greed.

I hate Iphone tho... and now it doesn't matter anyways as I want to hold on Unlimited data. All I know is if you are getting subsidize phone, Iphone will cost them more. Iphone 5 will not hog or be a problem to Verizon any longer as they are smart enough to lock them down with Tiered Data. If you want to keep unlimited data and already on 4G, then you can get iPhone full retail. They will be very expensive, and who wants to move to Apple once you taste the goodness of Android OS .

The cost of these phones might be slightly increasing on Ebay etc... but thankfully these are CDMA phones. We do not have to compete with Worldwide base .

Verizon are very good with Divide and Conquer. They will pinpoint each individual and get rid of them because they used loads of data once they are out of 2 years contract. They will not cancel all unlimited data users as that will be suicide and they know this. Those users that use massive data can complain and cry all the want, but will receive less backing than now as the rest of Unlimited Data users will do Monkey See Monkey Do on you. Better watch out your data once your 2 years contract is up.

Guess you didn't read the updated press release =p Once this starts as long as you don't take a new phone on subsidy you can keep you unlimited, regardless of if you're on 3g or 4g.
