Its not about being safe and saving lives, if that were the case, the government would be up the auto industries ass about making better cars than these sorry plastic cars that so many american car makers push out (same with gas mileage). Its more about an easy way to get more tax dollars flowing just as the seat belt law is, a way to tax. Same with traffic cameras, they dont reduce accidents but they do increase tax revenue. This is America - Its all about money...!!!!!!!!!!!

TAX TAX TAX - thats all...!!!!

How about the states and federal government come together to improve driver education and testing. Lets make it more difficult to get and keep a license. Hey, you didn't use a blinker to change lanes or make a turn?....you get pulled over and ticketed, no questions. If you can't merge properly on the interstate, you don't pass your driving test.

Plain and simple, it is too easy to get a drivers license and keep it. Not only that, the traffic laws that are already in place are not enforced.
DITTO!!!!!! Most folks have their priorities all mixed up. Our 'me' society overflows into our driving habits. Veering across traffic to make the exit that 'I' almost forgot to make, 'I' don't need to signal because 'I' know where 'I' am going and so does everyone else because 'I' always turn here, 'I' can simply do whatever 'I' want to because there are no cops around, 'I' can make others do what 'I' want them to, 'I' have a right to be driving. Driving IS a privilege, driving IS a skill, driving IS multi-tasking, driving IS a responsibility in safety. Using a cell phone for ANYTHING is NO different than any other activity you may do while driving! When your attention and/or concentration will be divided, your safety habits MUST be multiplied.

Most people forget that operating a motor vehicle is the mere point of the tip of the iceberg under the term 'driving'. And THEY are the ones making it dangerous for the rest of us, before they do anything else behind the wheel.

Try telling that to my Nephew who totalled his car while texting a couple weeks ago (got a ticket for "un-attentive driving" ) almost lost his life, education has little impact on adhd instant gratification culture. At least people walking into fountains or running into walls only hurt themselves. This law at least would garner more awareness for a growing epidemic in stupidity.

I warn you it is graphic.

I could only manage through the first minute of this atrocious video. Like the post after you stated, its fear-mongering. Not only could I spot several problems with the pre-crash events, but after the initial crash the oncoming traffic decided to, what, speed up? I feel bad for your entire community for having to go through with this CRAP just to get in a car for the first time. And in today's society where technology not only enables you but makes it a practical necessity to be available at all times, I proudly give the finger to this law. I hope the day never comes where I can't answer an emergency business call because I'm driving a car.

For the record I text while driving a couple times a day, but my eyes never leave the road just like how I am watching a movie while typing this.

    Wow, no mistakes!

In CA the law is no talking or texting and the fine is $169 dollars.

However, the law makes it worse because people are trying to hide it. Many times I have almost been in an accident where someone doesn't even realize that they were almost in one too.

Whether or not the federal government has any right to do this, there is no doubt that they do. They have laws against dui/dwi and excessive speed, and this causes many accidents as well.

Less government, more common sense! Less socialism, more democracy! That's my 2 cents!

Ummmm.... no. Ever remember trying to do your homework while watching TV? You never really did your best work then. The human body is is really good at multitasking, but not to the point where it IMPROVES one of them.

Texting behind the wheel is negligent at best, suicidal at worst.

Not to mention the fact that the driving test is usually done on low-speed roads with little traffic. (In California you don't have to go on the highway, I don't know about other states' tests).
