Federal Ban on All Cell Phone Use While Driving Proposed For US

The US government has no authority to pass such a law. That would make passage illegal and if someone were to attempt to enforce such a law, they would be outlaws.

All the federal government has to do is pass a law which ties federal highway funding to a cellphone ban. How do you think the 55 MPH speed limit lasted so long?

Yea women text a lot more then men do while driving but yet our insurance is higher. How dose that work. Last time i checked texting has killed more people then us men having a lead foot

So are we to assume all truck drivers that use CB radios to communicate will have to give their CB radios up too? I am totally against texting while driving but blue tooth, or any hands free device should be allowed.

No, not my point, but since you bring it up - what do they control now, besides alcohol consumption and seatbelts?

My point was more to bring up the question, where do we draw the line? It's an awfully fuzzy/gray line...

I don't see a need for a federal ban because many of the states already have laws on the books that ban this. It should be a states' rights issue.

My point was not to support doing nothing, but to be reasonable. Truckers have been using radios for years, way before cell phones and I do not think they have caused a rash of accidents. Most are very good drivers and are adults. I believe texting while driving is very dangerous and would support a law to outlaw this dangerous activity. I do not support any Federal law and would leave it up to each state. Like CB radios, cell phones should be allowed with hands free features activated. Again this would be up to each state to decide.
