I am not going to "single anyone out" in this thread but if you feel threatened while you are driving your vehicle due to others using cell phones then ---- ride the bus---- you should be safe there

Having kids in the car is a worse distraction than talking on the phone.

Just so we are on the same page .... IMO.... texting is the biggie here. Now that is what takes your eyes off the road. No talking

Talking may not take your eyes off the road like texting, but it still takes your mind off.

Talking on the phone with a headset is Ok with me, it's the texting I have an issue with.

True, but how many other things do that too?

I agree and believe the legislation may be to require handsfree. Texting is the real problem...very hard to look at what your texting and look at the road at the same time. I have no choice but to use handsfree because I drive standard... a hand on the steering wheel and the other one to shift gears does not leave me a hand to hold a phone.

Not in the same way as texting, which requires extended concentration.

Sorry I misread your first post - somehow I had in my head you were talking about cellphone use in general, not just texting. I agree 100% on texting. I still don't know how you can regulate that though. People look down to fiddle with things all the time.

    Amen.

You can't outlaw distracted driving, passing this law is a grant of additional power to the US government, always a bad idea.

They should outlaw distracted driving if it's connected with any type of cell phone use. Rember, Driving isn't a right, it's a privledge. Any moron thinking otherwise should get their head's checked.
I'm all for the ban on cell phones. You see jerks all the time texting while driving and freak'n frozen at a traffice light after it turns green while the driver's head is up their butts texting or talking on their cell.

Then you see the idiots waving their hands and arms like their conducting an orchestra while driving. Not only does it look stupid doing this but it's dangerous. I got rear ended by someone dialing. Back in the day, when you see folks look like their yellling, it was listening to rock or something, now it's talking on the cell or arguing. Screw the hands free crap - it's still a distraction.

For all you jerks out there talking on the cell phone and texting away like you're in a dire emergency (you know who you are), give it up. Uncle Sam will eventually catch up to you & I hope you go broke paying all the fines you deserve. Crap, I hope you get jail time.

I get your point but feel its a little extreme. Texting is a no no for certain. Using handsfree is something that most drivers should be able to do. Like I said before, children in the car a much greater distraction. If you cannot use a handsfree device and drive safely then maybe you shouldn't be driving at all. Bluetooth devices now days are extremely user friendly and talking to someone on a handsfree device is just like talking to someone sitting beside you or behind you.
