Acer Backing Off From Touch-Screen Device Business

Even though the Acer Iconia Tabs were very good products, they haven't sold very well, unfortunately. Acer just announced that they were pulling back from the touch-device biz. Here's a quote from the PhoneArena article with some details,

...the company reported that it will be dropping its touch business group and relocating half of its 300 research and development personnel to other divisions within the company. Acer said it would not be abolishing its smartphone and tablet teams completely, but would be cutting the teams down to 30 and 70 people, respectively.
This is surely disappointing news for fans of the "little tab that could." Perhaps as the technology and the market continues to evolve, they may jump back in the game in a big way again. There are rumors that they still may announced one mor new Iconia tab at CES in January. We will keep you informed.

I Own the Acer Iconia A100 and its one powerfull and well designed tablet sad to hear Acer is pulling out of the tablet world.
Good news is that the tablets will go super cheap when the finally pull the plug so keep an eye out. and Lastly I hope they still roll out ICS for the A100
at least it can go out with the lastest Android OS thus giving the dev community something to keep it alive for a few years.

That's really too bad. I have the Iconia A500 and it is a great tablet. I haven't had any problems with it.
