Google Charimen Eric Schmidt: We don't work with or support Carrier IQ
It seems that the Carrier IQ privacy drama has drawn the attention of some heavy hitters. Google's Chairman, Eric Schmidt, himself, came forward denouncing Carrier IQ. He indicated that Google does not support or endorse the company Carrier IQ in any way. Google's Eric Schmidt is the latest to make a formal statement on the matter. Here are some of his comments during an Internet freedom conference in the Dutch city of The Hague:
As a brief reminder, Carrier IQ made headlines over the past few weeks when a security expert came forward indicating that the company installed tracking software on millions of smartphones. It caused an uproar around the web, and a slew of companies, including Verizon, came forward denying any affiliation with them. In fact, several class-action lawsuits have actually been filed against the company since the story broke.
ďItís a key-logger, and it actually does keep your keystrokes, and we certainly donít work with them and we certainly donít support it,Ē Schmidt said during a recent conference. ďAndroid is an open platform, so itís possible for people to build software thatís actually not very good for you, and this appears to be one.Ē
You know you have garnered some negative attention when a "Big Cheese" like Eric Schmidt comments on you. Things are looking very grim for Carrier IQ.
