[Exclusive Rumor] Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Maybe Having Some Potential Quality Defects

So far, one of the best Android Tablets on the market has been the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Although there are several others that compete head-to-head with it, like the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 still garners enthusiastic praise for its attractive and light design as well as its performance and feature list. However, there has been a slightly disturbing trend as of late regarding the quality of the build, as several owners across multiple websites have begun reporting some of the same series of potential defects. Although this article isn't meant to cast a disparaging eye toward the gorgeous and competitive Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, we feel it is necessary as journalists to share this information with you in case it becomes a larger issue. Further, we also felt it would be beneficial to get a discussion going regarding these issues to see if a pattern is emerging, or if it is simply the regular levels of product defects that normally plague any new electronic device.

What we have seen posted in some of our own forums, as well as others including XDA Developers is a series of problems that keep cropping up. In fact, after doing some digging, several websites, including PhanDroid and SlashGear, have even posted news stories related to one of the problems that seems to be the most prolific of all the issues; the actual glass of the screen as it fits in its casing has come unglued and is "popping up". There are some reports that pushing it back down only fixes it temporarily, and it really points to a potential build quality defect. However, there are some other issues that seem to be increasing in volume as well, and here they are listed below:
    1. Dust under screen
    2. Moisture under screen
    3. Off center screen
    4. Ringing sound when touching the screen
    5. White noise sounds
    6. Heating issues
    7. WiFi issues

As you can see, there are several screen issues that could easily go hand-in-hand with the one mentioned previously. We want to hear from you guys, especially if you are owners and experiencing any of these problems. This could be a normal glitch in the product cycle of a complex electronic device, but it behooves us to discuss this to see if there is some larger issue involved. If it turns out there is a quality control issue, then at least we can be informed consumers, and Samsung can begin to improve their product with the knowledge we accumulate for them. Please sound off in the forums.

Well. That certainly helps my me. I have been looking for the "best all around value" tablet out. I do not need 3G service so I am only looking at wifi tablets. I know the Xoom is nice. I looked at the Galaxy tab last night. Anyone have any thoughts on what Android tablet i should get?

For me im debating between this tablet or the Asus one, but after reading this im going more towards the Asus one. For one its cheaper, and i can get a keyboard dock that charges the tablet soo its a win win situation =]

Another defect found in the mass majority of tablets and laptops is the glossiness of the screen. I realize they use glass for the touch-screens (for whatever reason) but the one thing I really like about my Thinkpad is the anti-glare, non-gloss LCD screen. I don't have to keep re-positioning until I find the sweet spot where there is no glare and I can actually see the screen. This isn't the case with these new tablets. If you try to use it in a brightly lit building or a building with lots of windows or a skylight, or you try to use it outdoors you find yourself straining your eyes in an attempt to look beyond the glare. Even the iPAD 1 & 2 suffers from this DEFECT.

You know, issues happen like this. IMO, whats important is how they handle this. IMO, Apple will justtell you its part of the design.

And how often are you touching your Thinkpad's screen? That's why it's plastic and can be matte/anti-glare. Touchscreen devices are made of glass because it doesn't scratch as easily. So which "defect" do you want...a reflective screen, or scratch susceptible screen?

I've had my galaxy tab since its release date (so almost 2 weeks now) and I don't have any of these problems.

When I watch a fullscreen flash video, there is a 'warm' spot on the back, presumably where the chip lies. However, it is only warm, not hot, or alarming in any way.

Ah as expected then... Samsung probably rushed so hard to catch up to the iPad2 that they just decided to go with it.

Waiting for the Galaxy Tab 10.2 it is I guess

Not sure if this goes with the "off center screen" (assuming it does), or just a really bad flash site.

But when I go to one specific site, I have to click about 1-inch kinda down / diagonal from the button to get in - and this happens on all subsequent pages on this site - and this often finding that sweet spot is rather difficult.

    i was going to edit...buuuuuttt....

Okay, if someone could help me verify that it's just not me, that'd be great...

    * Community Medical Center, Missoula Montana Hospital
    * scroll down to the bottom of the website
....there will be two BIG blue buttons on right hand side...
"What to Expect" and "Patient Safety"

Click on "What to Expect" ... it loads up a 3rd party site that my work uses.

Now, on the tablet, you'll be greeted by a page that says "your device is not supported yet" (yes, I realize it could very well be that simple - that's why i was hoping others could help me find out) .... scroll down a bit, there will be a small area that says:
    Already on a computer?
    Watch your program.

Click on "watch your program" ....after waiting a minute or two for things to load... click the button that says "I Understand" (a PC browser will be directed straight to this page) . This is where the clicking is off. So i don't know if it's the tablet, or the site itself.

Again, if anyone would be as kind to check this out and see if the button is clickable or if you have to click about an inch down / to the right of the button, I'd be extremely grateful.

    (sorry for the big post)
