Tiered plans are irrelevant to both VZW and 95% of their users who don't come close to 2 gigs, so it was hardly ever about "everyone getting screwed". It was only about all the free riders whining about rumors and the fear mongering of their free ride coming to an end, and looks as though they may get a temporary reprieve.
Tiered caps were seen as an easy, but imperfect solution to people who abuse the network to replace their ISP. VZW still has plenty of other means at their disposal to go after those people. If you want to use a ton of data (much of it arguably unneccesary), you'd have to pay for it...What a concept!
I mean, let me get this straight..."New users, most of whom don't have smartphones, need more than 2gigs". Really? People who have managed fine without a smartphone suddenly need more than 2gigs? That doesn't sound, well, stupid?
Everyone will have a beef with tiering. "I only use 100 MB but i pay the same as you that uses 2GB". Cry me a river. Who cares? Personally, I use between 2 and 4 GB monthly and its all legit. Just because you use hardly nothing and others use tons of bandwidth you have no reason to chastise or justify. They don't stop fat people at a buffet from getting their 3rd plate right? Yet, we are still paying the same.
Definition: Unlimited (Meaning of Unlimited)
For those who do not understand numbers or amounts here is a link for the definition.
This is the reason people scream about tiers. I don't abuse the system but i do use my share for necessary AND unnecessary use. The "unnecessary" part is for fun pandora/netflix/scanner radio.....basically what the phone is for. You should not have to limit your "fun" either.
Just sayin'
Pretty much any utility or anything is metered or tiered in some shape or form. Cable has different levels of packages and also premium channels. Home broadband has different levels of speed. Electric, water and gas are all metered. I simply can't see why this concept is so difficult for people to grasp when it comes to mobile data.
Right I understand that. What I was saying is that people that have regular phones or feature phones now that may have been waiting for say a Bionic will now have to run out and get a Tbolt or Charge even though they dont really want it just to lock in the unlimited. Then when the bionic comes out they will have to pay full retial for one if they want that. Thats just an example, but thats where I was going with that particular statement. Anyone that currently had the unlimited seems to be good for life, as long as they dont mess with anything.
Im also not so sure about that. Its my understanding if you add lines only the new lines get tiered. Of course once everyone gets on you want to take advantage of the shared data of the new family plans.
Since there is no difference in the 3G and 4G plans the device is irrelevant. You don't have to run out and get a Tbolt or Charge. As long as you have the unlimited data you just have to wait for upgrade time.
By the time my kids get cell phones i will likely need a "family data" share something i am sure LOL
See you could use that to your advantage too. Once theyre old enough and out of the house just make them pay for yours lol. Oh you want to keep your unlimited do you? lol. Of course putting that plan into action is probably no the easiest thing in the world, sounds good in theory though.
