Will this only work if the ad-supported version I have is the one from Google's Android Market, or only the one from Amazon AppStore?

I had the DL from the Android Market and it replaced it and I've not had any problems (other than my inability to launch the birds correctly because by finger/bird coordination is horrible ).

All my levels are still there and my scores are still there.

Ya, I grabbed it. Angry Birds Rio was also free on the launch day of the Amazon Market.

Nope. I uninstalled all three Rovio Apps and won't use their software until they correct this situation. As a professional software developer I tend to have very strong opinions and stances on this subject matter. I don't reward a company that fails me as a consumer. But I do go back once they correct the issue.
i've got to say that i absolutely 100% support you here. consumers have very little power and influence over companies these days, and one of the most powerful things we can do is not patronize their offerings.

I am so proud of Rovio for stabbing all of their early supporters in the back like this.

+ 1 , if the app is free then why do they need my credit card # . I never had to enter my info into the Andriod Market until I was ready to start paying for apps.....I think I'll stick with the Andriod Market !

So there's no sort of backup/restore in the amazon market? Not even a list of previously installed/purchased apps with an option to reinstall if you just wiped or something?

Angry Birds Rio is going to launch on the android market next week, but it will have ads. I think I read that on Droid life.

I'm not sure on this but I believe there is... I think it is all tied to your Amazon account. I can tell you that there is definitely a list of currently installed apps and apps you've uninstalled from the Amazon appstore.

So basically, I'm guessing, that if you get a new/wipe your phone, you just need to download the appstore again and sign into your amazon account and all your apps will be there.

Your Amazon market apps will appear in the Menu > My Apps if they are not installed on the device. I grabbed a couple apps via my Droid X, and when I went to the Amazon market on my Nook, they were listed there and ready to download/install.
