[Exclusive] Leaked Xoom Info / Contract Requirements from Costco

Costco of all placees has leaked out some Xoom advertisements that confirm some previously unknown information for us. First off, there has been a little bit of debate as to whether a cellular contract needed to be activated for at least a month to enable the wireless on the tablet. We now know for sure that this is the case. Costco is however offering a $35 rebate to soften the blow of this requirement. We are waiting on a bit more information to roll in right now to confirm both the date and price that you'll be able to pick this up at Costco for... stay tuned!

At least Costco is trying to make up for Verizon's blunder. Good for them.

Still, they need to get that WiFi only version out there before the iPad2 hits. I don't see the XOOM selling well at all when the only model available is $800. A large majority want a WiFi only version for under $600.

Totally agree and perhaps a 16GB version to drop it another $50-$100.

I would gladly take less internal storage space to shave a few shekels off the price tag! It's got an SD slot, so it's all good!

Didn't even think about this, I too would definitely give up some internal storage space for a price drop. I still can't believe Moto's only offering one model for one (ridiculously high!) price; that iPad2 will sound pretty good come summer time (especially if there isn't a price drop by then)

I'm blind. Where does it say a contract is required?

Just above the "XoomForums.com" watermark. Black in parenthesis: "(Activation & First Month Data Plan Required to Purchase)"

But is that necessarily a contract? It just reads, "Activation & First Month Data Plan." To me, that says you pay $35 to activate, $20 for the first month's data, then you can cancel and be on your way with wifi enabled. So that would just be a one-month contract.

This is as opposed to other ads that specifically state a 2-year contract is required(as in for subsidized pricing on a new or upgrade phone)

Ah, I re-read the article and it mentions just a contract, but just for the first month. I was in the mindset of a contract being long-term.

Whoever was the creative behind the ad got the wording right.

"Grab it and it grabs you."

By the nuts. Because of the price.
