    What are the requirements for an alert tone?

    I've wanted to change my ring tone and alert tone to audio from my personal collection. I was successful in changing my ring tone but I do not know how to change my alert tone, as the option does not appear on the audio track. DO i have to hack my phone to add one or is there a time / size requirement I have to meet?

    I have a Droid so my experience may be different.

    When you say alert is that a notification for email, text, etc? If so, open the app, tap settings, tap notifications. You should be able to select from your personal collection.

    It doesn't prompt me with any uploaded audio. Only the default ones.

    Are the ones you created in the media/music folder on your SD card?

    You need to createa folder on your sdcard to hold the files so android will find them.

    /media/audio/ringtones
    */*/notifications
    */*/alarms

    I put in that folder, short one on the chain next to the facebook alarm which came pre- loaded. Still not reading the file.

    What format is the file? Can you post it here?

    I don't know what you mean by "short one on the chain next to the facebook alarm". The facebook sound shouldn't be on the SD card, as far as I'm aware.

    /media/audio/notifications is where you should put audio files that you want to show up in the list for available notifications. That path is relative to the root of the SD card.
    Cool CM Tricks
    custom_backup_list.txt - make a list of files in /system that will survive a nightly install (ringtones, notifications, system apps, wallpapers, whatever)
    in Terminal Emulator, set this as your shell command: "/system/xbin/su -c /system/xbin/bash". You get all the features of bash, root access, and you can still use the initial command field for whatever you want (default is adding /data/local/bin to your path)
