    Backup before root?

So... this might sound like a stupid question, but I'm curious if there is a way to backup the phone before rooting? After reading many of these threads, it sounds like rooting, while for the most part can be pretty safe, is a crapshoot. Many posts say things like "Here are the top 50 benefits of rooting! (Oh yeah, but you could brick your phone.)" haha I like to take precautions when possible.

    Thank you in advance!

Backup like return it to stock?
During the method described in my signature, after you get the sprecovery flashed on, you can backup your system there. No data backup from your programs (save for Gmail, contacts as they are tied to the cloud.)
If you are just talking about programs and data then you should get mybackuppro or titanium backup. Those will back up settings and programs and their data.
If you are talking about making sure you still have a phone when you are done, that's what everyone here is for.
Read over the link in my signature. Took me a month of researching. I didn't have to ask any questions because I researched. Just take your time and get the guide down. You will never look back!

Well, yeah, I meant making sure I had a phone when I got done. lol I did find that guide earlier and am in the process of reading through it. I guess I'm just a little nervous about being a noob and also using Windows 7, which the post warns against. Although, I will read through the frequently encountered issues first. Thanks!

The only issue with windows 7 is making sure you run as administrator. Many people in the posts following used 7 with no issues.

Follow the instructions in the link guidot provided and you will be fine. If you have issues post and the community will assist.

BTW I still have the virgin backup I made prior to rooting my Droid last Feb

Titanium Backup is root-only, so you can't use that.

If you're really worried about it, move everything you can to the SD card, get an app to back up your texts, and then back it all up on your PC. Worst case scenario you can use the FRG22D SBF file to put your phone back to stock and put everything back on. You'll be out a couple hours of time, tops, and have to set your phone backup.

The link Guidot provided is great, so just follow that.

I'm overly cautious! I backup my SD card to my computer and have well over 20 backups.

Mike, I'm also anal like that! I have my backups and such on my computer and in dropbox so if something happens on the road (I'm a Telecom tech) I'm set!

haha You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the tips! I'm going to try and tackle this today while I'm at work, but it might have to wait until tomorrow. How long do you think it will take? This stuff is pretty new to me, but I'm a quick study.

    Thanks again!
