Before I ask my actual question, I am rooted. Is there a way to extract all the icons on my phone to my sd card so i can mess with them on my laptop?
Yes, copy your framework-res.apk and whichever other apks to your PC, extract all contents, and then go thru all the APKs and framework-res folders and exrac any icons you like...
If you search the interwebs there may be a pack of icons that is the stock set. Actually I am pretty sure I have seen one a while back, I don't recall where though.
But to pull them and mess with them manually from the phone, that is where they are, so...that is the only way to get them.
Icons on your phone are spread out through numerous .apk files for example the contacts icon is in the contacts.apk and the gmail icon is in the gmail.apk and then as stated above the framework-res.apk is full of all of the images that make up the "framework" of your device, start pulling .apk's and opening them on your computer by renaming them from .apk to .zip and navigating to the res/drawable folders and start messing around and seeing what is inside
there are also icon packs to be found, but it is not as good of a learning experience as breaking down an .apk and seeing what it is made of
The more you dig, the more you learn
Market and some here and there in Android forums... there is also BetterAndroid icon packs that you can download and extract icons from...
Oh and BTW...since you've done this before, I'm sure you'll know how to access those Better Android icon packs for extraction...lol
